In 2015 England grabbed European gold by winning from the Netherlands after taking shoot-outs. A year later the English women’s hockey team defeated the Netherlands again during the Olympic Games in Rio (2016). In both matches goalkeeper Maddie Hinch played an absolute leading role. Unfortunately, England performed less and less after the Olympic Games, with first a third place at the European Championship in 2017, a sixth place at the 2018 World Cup and fourth place at the European Championship in 2019. In recent years many experienced players left the National team.
