1,000th match in the history of the EuroHockey Championships

Today’s group stage match between Ireland and Scotland in the women’s tournament (12.30 CET) is the 1,000th match in the history of the EuroHockey Championships for men and women combined.

Before today the women’s tournament featured 416 matches since the start of the competition in 1984 in Lille. After last night’s clash between England and Belgium, the men’s tournament has now seen 583 matches since the first edition of 1970 in Brussels.

Most of the 1,000 EuroHockey Championships matches have been played in Amstelveen (177). The city has staged 87 matches in the women’s tournament (in 1995, 2009, 2017 and 2021) and 90 in the men’s tournament (in 1983, 2009, 2017 and 2021).
